Thanks to higher capacity and smaller beam divergence, Free-space optical (FSO) communications will dramatically exceed the performances of traditional RF-based solutions for space communication links. This presentation reports on optoelectronics parts qualification strategy, key components for such applications, and on technical challenges that lay ahead.
