Abstract

Abstract

This paper reviews the fundamentals and recent progresses of digital signal processing for SDM transmission with few-mode fiber and multicore fiber. The used MIMO processings in high-capacity/long-distance transmission and signal-quality equalization techniques are explained.

Abstract

Abstract

The statistical behavior of the intercore crosstalk (ICXT) power in weakly coupled multicore fibers (MCFs) with multiple interfering cores is experimentally assessed. Results demonstrate that the ICXT power can, with a very low error, be described by a chi-square distribution with 4 degrees of freedom.

Abstract

Abstract

Multicore fibers possess the potential to develop dense-space-division multiplexing systems. Several dense-space-division multiplexing system transmission experiments concerning multicore fibers have been demonstrated. Multicore fibers, including recent results by our group, are reviewed in this study.
