Chromatic aberrations in lenses are challenging to correct over large bandwidth. We show that dispersion-tailored and polarization-insensitive metasurfaces comprising counterintuitive anisotropic nanofins can correct the chromatic aberrations simple singlet lenses to sophisticated microscope objectives with unprecedented compactness. While frequency combs are mostly connected to short pulse emission, it is not the only way to generate a comb. Quantum or interband cascade lasers for example show a completely different behavior. Here, we give an overview of this exciting phenomena including theory and experiments.
