Planar laser diagnostics, including particle image velocimetry and laser-induced fluorescence, are commonly used in engine combustion research. This talk discusses some of the challenges and opportunities for using planar diagnostics to understand the complex, turbulent flow/flame coupling present in military engine combustors.
