In recent years, more photonics parts are being used in space application. However, space application has different challenges and criteria. This talk will discuss some of these criteria. A laser metrology system as an example will be discussed.

A structured illumination system based on microscale light-emitting diode arrays provides a low size, mass and power approach to monitor the relative angular alignment of nano-satellites operating in cluster configuration.
