Abstract

Abstract

A Brillouin ring laser gyroscope is demonstrated using a silica-on-silicon high-Q whispering gallery resonator. The sensitivity is sufficient to observe the Earth's rotation rate. Also, scale factor enhancement is demonstrated using an exceptional point in the resonator system. Prospects for improved performance are discussed.

Abstract

Abstract

In this paper, numerical simulations are performed to design low threshold gain visible semiconductor nanolasers. By increasing the thickness of the active region to maximize the lasing mode confinement, a low threshold gain of only 279 cm-1 is obtained.
