Abstract

Abstract

I will present integrated photonics based on aluminum nitride, whose wurtzite structure gives rise to strong quadratic optical nonlinearity and piezoelectric effect. Together with its low optical and mechanical losses, AlN enables high fidelity photon control, including on-chip parametric down-conversion, spectral-temporal shaping, and microwave-to-optics conversions.

Abstract

Abstract

Integrating both second- and third-order nonlinearities in CMOS-compatible silicon technology offers a path towards advanced chip-scale nonlinear photonic devices. I will discuss our recent work on inducing second-oder nonlinearity through all-optical polling of silicon nitride waveguides.
