Abstract

The L.E.A.D. Mentors Program at Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine is an initiative designed to help first and second year medical students navigate the many challenges of medical school. L.E.A.D. stands for Leadership in Extracurricular, Academics and Daily Living, representing the areas in which the L.E.A.D. mentors focus on in working with their mentee. The program identifies and trains experienced third and fourth year students (mentors) who are then paired with first and second year students (mentee) with the goal of helping these students adjust to new expectations, explore different resources, and offer advice and support throughout the year.
The presentation will describe the development of this important program, identify the strengths and weaknesses of the program during its pilot year and discuss strategies to improve the program in 2019-20.
