Abstract

Medical educators in Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine need data by which they can compare their curriculum’s outcomes with those at allopathic institutions. And all stakeholders in Graduate Medical Education, whether osteopathic or allopathic, need data that compare and contrast DO/MD students using comparable standards. This session highlights one particular opportunity for building such consistency. Each year, the AAMC All Schools Summary Report Medical School Graduation Questionnaire (GQ) and the AACOM Academic Year Graduating Seniors Survey Summary Report (SR) provide aggregate data from graduates of U.S. MD and DO granting medical schools accredited by either LCME or COCA. While these two surveys are similar in nature and scope, nuanced differences in how items are worded and rating scales are used make it difficult to compare the two definitively. This session analyzes the extent to which combined data from these surveys can present a unified and holistic portrait of recent medical school graduates’ perceptions of their career training.
